What goes into the price of a felted pet portrait
A 2D ornament starts at CHF 56 (EUR 62). A large 3D pet replica can run past CHF 900 (EUR 950+). Those numbers deserve an explanation, so here's one.
We get asked about pricing regularly, and it's a fair question. Custom felted pet portraits aren't cheap. We're not going to pretend otherwise or bury the price on the website. Instead, here's a plain breakdown of what you're actually paying for.
The short version
You're paying for one person's hands and time, good materials, and a process that doesn't cut corners. There's no factory and no assembly line. One artisan works on your piece from start to finish.
Hours per product
This is the biggest factor. Needle felting is slow. There's no tool or technique that makes it meaningfully faster without making it worse.
| Product type | Typical hours | Price range (CHF) | Price range (EUR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2D ornaments | 8-12 hours | 56 | 62 |
| Small 2D portrait (15x15cm) | 10-15 hours | 81-123 | 89-135 |
| Classic 2D portrait (15x18 to 24x36cm) | 15-23 hours | 98-290 | 108-319 |
| 3D portrait in frame (S/M/L) | 18-40 hours | 98-177 | 108-195 |
| 3D magnet or ornament (5-12cm) | 12-20 hours | 58-98 | 64-108 |
| 3D sculpture (6-30+cm) | 2-15 days | 72-945 | 79-1040 |
The larger and more detailed the piece, the more details need to be revealed, and also the more hours go in.
Materials
We use corriedale wool for the structural core and merino or alpaca blends for the visible outer layers. These aren't the cheapest options. They're the ones that produce the best results and hold up over time.
For 3D pieces, there's also wire for the armature, and soft clay for certain details. Framed portraits include the wooden frame and backing fabric.
Material costs per piece typically run CHF 15-60 depending on size and type. That's a fraction of the total price, because the labor is where the real cost sits.
The revision process
Every piece includes a back-and-forth review before it ships. We send you photos and video from all angles. You tell us what needs changing. We adjust. This sometimes happens two or three times before you're satisfied.
That revision time is built into the price. We don't charge extra for it, and we don't rush it. The piece ships when you say it's right, not before.
Shipping and packaging
We ship worldwide with tracking. Each piece is individually packed with protective padding and a sturdy outer box. Framed pieces and 3D sculptures get extra protection.
Shipping cost depends on your location, but the packaging materials and handling time are included in the product price.
What we do for free
Some things aren't part of the pricing at all.
Military and retired service dogs get free felting for most product categories. We also offer free needle felting training for people with disabilities. Neither of these is a marketing thing. They're just things we think are worth doing.
The comparison people don't always make
A custom felted pet portrait at CHF 100-200 sits in roughly the same range as a commissioned oil painting, a custom pet illustration from a professional artist, or a high-quality photo-to-canvas print with retouching.
The difference is that you get a three-dimensional, tactile object made entirely by hand from natural materials. It's not printed or digitally generated. Whether that matters to you is personal, but it's what you're paying for.
No hidden costs
The price on the product page is the price. We don't add fees for custom colors, specific poses, or "rush" surcharges unless you explicitly ask for expedited work. Multi-pet pieces have their own pricing listed clearly on each product page.
If you want to talk through options before ordering, that's free too. We'd rather you order the right thing than the most expensive thing.
